See this lovely gal? Last year I was in her. In 2 weeks I’m going to be in Bath, Maine to go in her sister. My experience was less than pleasant last time, so here’s hoping her sister treats me better.

Anyways, what the hell is there to do for fun in Bath, Maine? I know we’ve got a few Maine people around here, so pipe up and tell me what to expect.

there is another Opponaut who is in Maine 2 weekends from now too from far away. The next town down has a great German restaurant called Richard’s in Brunswick. Bath is tough though. You going to have wheels?

Also, make sure you wrap it up, those sisters sound like you arent the only one up inside both of them

There’s a prep/reform school up there that I used to play sports against while I was in high school. A lot of kids with parents too rich to have their kid go to rehab.

Oh you meant fun things? Idk about Bath but Boothbay is pretty cool.

I’m going to be up there to support pre-trial inspections, its going to be 4 12-hour days deep in the bowels of the ship. So I’m not looking to get too crazy. Mostly just looking for recommendations of good places to eat, drink, etc.

I always bring protection - they’ve had hundreds of yard workers and seamen all up in them.

There’s a half dozen of us coming up, the company will probably rent 2 cars, so I doubt I’ll be able to get out on my own and cruise around. But I will suggest Richard’s for dinner one night. I haven’t had German food in a long time but I do like it.

My parents have lived there the past five years. Every time I’ve visited, I take a visit by Popham Beach. There’s an excellent maritime museum in Bathe, and they are renovating an old clipper ship right next door the last time I was there. To the north, Bar Harbor is pretty touristy, but genuinely has some cool sailboats and restaurants. Restaurants in Bathe are few, and I recommend branching out a little for good eats. It’s Maine, after all. Enjoy the seafood.

I’ve also taken a red E30 convertible down lots of peninsulas near there and have had a blast down any snaking ribbons of asphalt and had a blast on a sunny day. Can confirm that the roads are a ton of fun (but that the cops won’t mess around).

My dad has two 740i’s up there that he’s trying to sell. You’re welcome to buy either one and go for a cruise. I’ll give you his email if you’re serious about buying one.

Fair enough, Boothbay is like a half hour away

That’s not too bad. I’ll look into it, see what’s there.

The John Flinn! I love Arleigh Burke destroyers. Probably the most prolific class of ship in the Navy and I think we must have half of them home ported here in San Diego.

They really are great. I supported pre-launch structural inspections on the Finn last summer down at Ingalls in Mississippi. They had just set the superstructure and were beginning internal fit out. They had some fans in there to move air around, but it was over 100 degrees inside the ship, absolutely miserable. Did it for 12-14 hours a day for a straight week. I’m hoping Bath weather will be a little nicer, and the Peralta is a little further along, so hopefully there’s some AC cranking when I get there.

Good Lord, that sounds like Hell to me. I have a hard time when our summer temps top out in the high 80s with low humidity!
